Driffield Navigation Festival

June 29, 2025 11:00 am—June 29, 2025 8:00 pm

About the Festival

People are invited to historic Driffield Canal for a free event to celebrate the 250-year-old waterway, which helped to put the market town on the map.

Live music, boat trips, and a duck race, will be just part of the one-day Driffield Navigation Gala at Riverhead on Sunday, June 29,  from, 11am to 8pm.

Driffield Navigation Trust says a warm welcome is extended to everyone to go along and enjoy a day out at the gala, which is a fundraiser for the canal.

Entertainment

Entertainment will include the usual water-based activities, like boat trips to Town Lock and back, pedalos including a four-man swan pedalo, a duck race with cash prizes, a mini-market, and childrens’ entertainment.

Live music will be provided by fabulous Elvis Presley impersonator Kenny J, Charlene, an exciting Diana Ross tribute act, and brilliant The Sonics Rock & Roll Band.

The gala will also include refeshments with an all-day  licensed bar and barbecue, tea and coffee stall, and an ice cream stall.

Family Fun

The trust is looking forward to this year’s event, and hopes as many people as possible will visit the gala and enjoy the  fun and games in a beautiful setting.

Members say they appreciate the public support they get in helping to maintain and improve the canal, which depends on fundraising and a lot of hard work.”

Driffield Navigation Trust is organising the gala to raise funds for theĀ  restoration and upkeep of the 11-mile canal, which is being supported by Driffield Town Council.

Driffield Navigation Trust is a charity that relies on fundraising and donations, and every penny it makes at the gala will be spent on maintenance and improvements.

The trust is on a mission to see boats of all shapes and sizes being able to sail all the way from Hull into the Canal Basin at Riverhead in Driffield.

A major sticking point is the low fixed road bridge at Wansford, but the trust is working with partners, like East Riding Council, to discuss the way forward for a new opening bridge.

It is felt the canal is a wonderful asset for Driffield and the wider East Riding area, and a fully navigable canal would increase tourism and boost the local economy.
